Add frost and snow to your image

This tutorial will show you how to add frost and snow to your scenic photos with only 1 or 2 steps! REALLY! .

This technique works best on scenic photos, such as of trees, leaves or gardens, but feel free to try it on any images you want.

Here is the image I will be working with:

Now create a NEW "Channel Mixer" adjustment layer, to do this, click on the adjustment layers icon at the bottom of your layers pallete, and select "Channel Mixer".

A channel mixer dialog will pop up, just click OK to close it for now.

Now set the blending mode of this layer to "Lighten"

Now change the settings to like below:

Now, your image may not look like mine at this setting depending on the lightings in your image. So adjust your "Blue" and "Constant" sliders around until you get some good results.

But like i said before, this will work better on some images than other, so if it doesnt turn out good on 1 image, try another :)

Here are mine at different Blue and Constant Settings.

Not much snow at all

A little more snow.

PLENTY OF SNOW!

The Terminator

In this tutorial, we'll be turning an ordinary person into The Terminator with scars and injuries too. .

- Open up the image of a face you want to turn into the terminator. Im using the terminator himself as my victim for this experiment :).

- Duplicate the orginal layer so now you have 2 layers for this image. go to the BOTTOM layer, and apply Filter » Sketch » Chrome. Set Detail: 10 and Smoothness: 0

Now go back to the top layer (from now, we will only be working on the top layer.) , then choose the "Eraser Tool", and set the brush size to or similar. we want one with rough edges.

Now use this eraser to erase his eye on the TOP layer, this will reveal his bottom layer.

Now apply this BEVEL and EMBOSS layer style to the top layer.
Layer » Layer Style » Bevel and Emboss

Now use the SHAPE TOOL to create a small round shape for his eye. Then Apply the following layer style:

- Gradient Overlay

- Drop Shadow

- Stroke

- Inner Shadow

- Now create a new layer.

- Choose the brush tool, and select the same brush as you use above, but change the size to smaller, around 18px, and paint a vertically on the cheek, do not just drag the mouse to draw, but point and click to give it a rougher edge.

Now apply the following to this new layer.

- Color Overlay -> color: #770707 and opacity 100%

- Inner Shadow

Now choose the eraser tool, and select brush size 4 hard edgeand erase out the center of this layer.

Now choose the photo layer and the working layer, and use the eraser tool to also erase out the same area as you just erase in the above layer.

You can erase out other parts around it too.

The above 2 step just showed you how to create scars and revealing his "metallic" body inside. repeat this step using some variations on brush sizes to other parts of his face.

Also, if the face is too happy, use the Filter » Liquify tool and make him angrier.

Here is Mine turning it into a movie poster

Fun with the Liquify Tool

This tutorial introduces the basics of the liquify filter, the basic tools and what they can do to an image..

To start off, lets open the image of our victim, for this tutorial, i'll be using this image of Angelina Jolie again :) You candownload it here

This tutorial was written using Photoshop CS2, and using the liquify filter, im not sure if this filter is available in older versions.

Now open your Liquify filter, its located at Filter » Liquify

Now to the left of the liquify dialog, you will see a toolbar. for the purpose of this tutorial, we are only interested in the following:

Each of these tools will distort the image in a certain way, with a little of playing around and creativity, you can create some awesome images.

To create the image on the left, select the "Bloat Tool", then set the tool options on the right to something similar to this:

Now just mover your brush over to the image, place it over the eye, then click and hold onto the left mouse button for about 1 - 2 seconds. DO NOT MOVE THE MOUSE! just click and hold. Moving the mouse will cause too much distortion to the image.

What I did next was use the same technique above but this time doing it to the lips.

As you can see, the possibilities are endless with the liquify tool! Have a play around with it and see what kind of monster you can turn your family and friends into!!

Layered Text

Here you will learn how to create multi layered text effect which you can apply to both texts and other layers. A Great effect for logos, and signage..

Start photoshop with a new document, large enough to accomodate your texts.

Use the TYPE tool to create your text.

Then duplicate this text layer so you end up having 2 identical layers.

First, we will work with the TOP text layer.
apply the following Layer styles to the top text layer.
(Layer » Layer Style » ....)

Drop Shadow
Inner Shadow
Bevel and Emboss
Gradient Overlay

Now, make sure your still working on the top layer, then go to Layer » Rasterize » Type

After this, the top layer text will no longer be editable.

Now hide the top layer by clicking on the "eye" icon next to it, so we can see the bottom text layer.

Now apply the following layer styles to the bottom text layer:

Inner Shadow
Bevel and Emboss
Gradient Overlay
Stroke

Now, show the top layer by enabling the eye icon again, you will now see the top text layer, the bottom layer hidden underneath.

Now select your Eraser tool, using a HARD EDGE brush, and partially erase the top text layer, revealing the bottom layer...

This part is where you can get creative and erase whatever part you want, using different brush sizes...
